My art practice is a synthesis of painting, sculpture, and installation. This work both adopts and plays with the cannon of art history by extending thrown away, mundane objects outside of the two-dimensional picture plane and into the viewer’s three-dimensional space.

Drawing on utilitarian motifs such as the extension cord, the work references my childhood memories of Midwest, working-class life in rural Illinois. Using the tools of the academy such as tromp-l’oeil, the mixed media paintings re-contextualize lowbrow objects like my mom’s brick-a-brac into paintings that break the rules of flat space. This blend of form and content aims to engage both body and mind of the viewer.
